I got a letter from Cousin? Joe Coyle in Italy this evening telling me that one of the Coyles he has been working with has posted a
web page to aid us in our research. If you feel like joining in the dig, check out Ginny Chung's page.

Joe told me this evening that he now has indexed 7,684 Coyles. Maybe we'll get a break soon and find our roots!
Joe Coyle
For the past couple of months I haven't had much time to spend researching our tree, but recently I've really gotten a kick start. I contacted
about 6 people who had posted to an Irland based bulleton board. All but one were dead ends. The one lady that showed some promise
passed on my address to a Joe Coyle from South Dakota who is now working in Italy. Joe contacted me because our histories have a bit in
common, and he wanted to see if we were closely related. From the beginning I had a feeling that we might be related, and this week Joe
sent me the evidence. Christmas Eve I opened my email to find a picture of Joe's ancestor from County Cavan Ireland. Darn if the fellow in
the photo doesn't look like my brother Phil, and a lot like Dad with a beard. Their eyes are similar, and their eyebrows, facial shape,
and high cheekbones are almost identical!
Patrick Coyle from Co. Cavan, IR
Joe and I are now sharing our ideas and information. I recently I found the street addresses of 6 Coyles in Cootehill, where I think we
came from, and I will be contacting them soon to see if we can't manage to get a local to do some legwork for us. Meanwhile, Joe is in the process of trying to
build a database of all Coyles to try to find common relatives. There is a small group of people who are looking for their Coyle
ancestors in Drumgoon in County Cavan. Oddly, there is very little reference to the name Coyle in that region. Since there appears to be so few of us there, it's a good bet that all of this group are related. Below I have posted Joe's recent letter
that lays out what he's trying to do. There are a few small missing spots in the letter because I lost it when I replaced my hard drive,
and I had to resurrect it from a coded backup file. Parts of the letter refused to come back.

My name is Joe Coyle, my family mostly grew out of eastern South Dakota
with branchs all around the midwestern states. I have been working on
the family history for some 8 yrs. now, and lately have come into more
research material that was not available 4-6 yrs ago. While doing
on-line searches I have come across links on web sites to all of you.
What has become apparent is that most of us are searching for our roots
in Ireland and have many problems establishing the origins of our
families. The chief reason for this is the lack of records available for
a whole bucket full of reasons. One look at Irish history and you can
imagine the difficulty maintaining any sort of uniform record system.
What is also apparent is that most of us on this mailing list are
looking for roots in Co. Cavan of which there even fewer records. I urge
all of you to flood the County offices with e-mail requests for more
information to be posted on their website, in all forms, census, church
records, marriages , deaths, etc.
Only by overwhelming them with requests will they buckle under and
update their websites. I have written to one of their desks and done
just that. The e-mail address I used is kevin@local.ie , there
are others too.
I also urge the rest of you that are not looking for info in Cavan Co.
to do the same with your respective Counties.
I would like to hear from all of you with a run down on your family line
and where your family is from now. As you can see by this mailing list
there are many of us and this is just the tip of the iceberg.
I have begun an energetic project that I hope will bear fruit for all of
us, it involves building a database for just the COYLES no matter where
they are from. It is my belief that if enough information can be
compiled from all of you that we may find links among ourselves thus
narrowing the searches required to establish a place of origin in
Ireland. It may also happen that some of you may know stories passed
down through the years
It is also my belief that given enough time and backtracing we would all
find that we all have a common root, afterall Ireland is not that big
nor are her little counties, and given the proximity of all parishs and
townships, churches and districts , that is not so hard to imagine. I am
sure that we are all tied together somehow in one century or another and
most of us would probably find links in the 1800's (when Everybody Left)
or sooner in the 1600-1700's.
The Database is at present under construction as information comes in
and I locate sources on the web.
I have three computers at my disposal and three seperate programs,
capable of interchanging data in the form of "GEDCOM" files or PAF files
, also hand entry which I do not prefer as you can imagine. I have it
broken down into three categories first is my direct line, second are
the lines of people such as yourselves, and third are the families of
Ireland both past and present. As new information comes in from
you it is entered in the respective database and bounced against what is
in the others, if their is a link and I mean a positive link not guess
work, Then the appropriate association link is made and the files
transfered into each other. When this happens the trees get larger and
present even more possibilities for associations to take place , and the
cycle repeats, in the end theoretically speaking , we would all be from
the same tree.
If anyone wishes to Exchanges files in those formats I mentioned above
please by all means send them to me.
Some of the questions that some of you have posted on websites can be
answered simply but yet others are not so easy. I will make attachment
files to this e-mail so you can peruse this info on your own, if for
some reason you do not recieve the attachments please e-mail me and i
will send them to you individually. Also, I want to make mention of the
fact that communicating between ourselves could make all the difference,
since I have started this again.
see on the "Cc" list above. We have exchanged e-mails and stories and
found things in common and in the case of Denny and the Pennsylvania
Coyles there is a strong indication that we are indeed linked in past
generations. John Avedian is one such case he and I are third or fourth
generation cousins and I beleive Denny and I will find that true as
well. Point of this is that I have learned things from both of those
guys that I never knew before and has given me new hope of finding our
roots in Ireland.
From those of you that I have corresponded with so far, I have learned
there may be other links that were not previously thought of, not to my
line but possibly to Denny's and if that works and his and mine link,
well like I said it just keeps getting bigger.
So, please, each of you consider what the possiblities are and let's get
our heads together. With the power of the internet now it is not such a
big world after all.
Remember this, that the smallest detail, no AOLFAOLH:
seems may be the one that ties it all together.
I might add also, that, I am not doing this for anything in the way of
reimbursement or do I want anybody to send me anything not pertaining to
The Coyle Family History. My interests in this are strictly for the
benefit of the families and of course my own selfish desire to
understand my roots. Many of my family members are sending me letters
asking for updates as I'm sure do all of your relatives.
I am looking forward to hearing from all of you,
Sincerely,
Joseph A. Coyle

Update October 3
I spoke to our parents' first cousin, Jim Rork, today. - Jim has been chasing down our roots for a couple of decades. I read to him the
census information that I found, and he confirmed that these were our ancestors. He told me that " Mauch Chunk" has been renamed "Jim Thorpe".
He too found Audenreid back in the 80's and asked some locals where the Audenreid cemetary might be found. Unfortunately, they
told him that it had been covered by a culm bank for years. I'm not positive they gave him the correct answer on that one though.
The other night I found a site where someone had listed the names on the gravestones in that cemetary. I'm pretty sure that it was
a fairly recent site, so I'll have to try to find it again, and perhaps contact the person who wrote down the names. Maybe there were 2
cemetaries, or perhaps it's only partially buried, or let's really hope that the locals Jim talked to decided to pull his leg a bit. The site I
found listed a Patrick Coyle in that cemetary from County Caven, Drumgoon Parish. Jim says he believes Patrick to be the brother of
our great great grandfather, Phillip.Below is a map of the area in which our ancestors lived. Beaver Meadows is where Dennis Coyle was born. Audenreid is where Phillip
and Julia Coyle are buried. Jim Thorpe is where Phillip and Julia lived when the 1850 and 1860 us census were conducted. Minersville
is where Mary Jayne Byrne, our great grandmother, was born.
